The following bike frame size charts and calculators give you a good starting point on what size bike will fit your body. Sizing a bicycle is not an exact science, so consider this a general guide. You still may want to get a professional fitting from your local bike shop when buying a bike. In order to use the charts, you should have your height and leg length measurements (in either inches or centimeters). You can navigate this guide using the links below:

Kids Bike Frame Sizes

Kids bikes are sized using the age of the rider. Bicycle sizes are determined by the tire size.

Calculate your child’s bike size

Reading the Charts

  • Find your height on the left column(s)
  • For Road Bikes and Mountain Bikes
    • Find your inseam across the top, in either inches or centimeters (cm)
    • Find where the two columns intersect – this is your general frame size
  • For BMX Bikes
    • Find the “X” and “-” for your height, and look at the frame size in the column heading
  • Any frame sizes highlighted in yellow may work for you
  • Crank size/length is also shown at the very bottom
  • Depending on your riding style, body type, and personal preference, you may prefer a smaller or larger frame, but you can use this size as a starting point.

Measuring Your Height

  • Remove your shoes.
  • Stand with your back against the wall, feet just less than shoulder width apart.
  • Have someone measure from the ground to the top of your head.
  • Jot down your height in inches or centimeters (cm).

Measuring Your Leg Length / Inseam

  • Your leg length or bicycle inseam is different than clothing inseam or jean size.
  • Start by removing your shoes.
  • Stand with your back against the wall, feet about shoulder width apart.
  • Put a large book between your legs, with it’s spine firmly up against your crotch.
  • Have someone measure from the floor to the spine of the book.
  • Jot down your inseam in inches (in) or centimeters (cm).
